Potomac Speedway Promoters Announce They Will Not Renew Lease After 2026 Racing Season

July 20, 2026

The current promoters of Potomac Speedway announced they will not renew their lease after the conclusion of the 2026 racing season, bringing their two-year run at the historic track to an end.

In a statement, the promoters said the decision was difficult but emphasized that they remain committed to completing the current season and making the remaining events memorable for racers, fans, sponsors, employees, and supporters.

“After two incredible years of promoting Potomac Speedway, we have made the difficult decision not to renew our lease following the conclusion of the 2026 racing season,” the statement said.

The promoters took over operations for the 2025 and 2026 seasons and thanked the racers, fans, sponsors, employees, families, and community partners who supported the track during that time.

They also expressed hope that another group or individual will step forward to continue operating the speedway and preserve its place in the regional racing community.

“It is our sincere hope that someone will step forward to continue the tradition of Potomac Speedway and keep this historic track thriving for many years to come,” the statement said.

The announcement does not mean the speedway is closing immediately. Racing is expected to continue through the remainder of the 2026 season under the current promoters.

No announcement has been made regarding who may operate the track after the current lease expires.

The promoters said they plan to close out the season with the same enthusiasm and appreciation that have marked their two years at Potomac Speedway.
