Cordell Tyrone Sollers, 40, of Prince Frederick, has been charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia following a July 9, 2026, traffic stop in a restaurant parking lot in Prince Frederick.
According to allegations filed by a detective with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, the Calvert County Drug Enforcement Unit received information during the summer of 2026 that Sollers was possessing and distributing cocaine in Calvert County. Investigators reported seeing Sollers at the Walmart on Solomons Island Road at approximately 1:30 p.m. on July 9.
Sollers entered the front passenger seat of a black Honda Accord being driven by an adult female. Detectives said the vehicle was heavily damaged, had no front bumper and displayed registration stickers showing that its registration had expired in May 2025.
The Honda traveled from the Walmart parking lot to the nearby Wendy’s parking lot on Solomons Island Road, where detectives initiated a traffic stop based on the expired registration. Detectives contacted the occupants after the vehicle pulled into a parking space.
Police said that Sollers immediately became agitated and tried to enter the Wendy’s restaurant. Both occupants were asked to leave the vehicle so detectives could conduct an open-air K-9 sniff.
A detective and his K-9 partner, Rico, conducted the sniff around the Honda. Police reported that Rico gave a positive alert for the odor of controlled substances. The documents state that Rico is trained and certified to detect controlled substances.
Sollers and the driver were detained in handcuffs while detectives continued their investigation, and both were advised of their rights. During a search of the vehicle, investigators allegedly found a metal pushrod with white residue on its tip inside the front passenger-side door pocket, next to where Sollers had been seated.
The investigating detective described metal pushrods as items commonly used to pack crack cocaine into smoking devices. The detective alleged that the residue on the pushrod appeared consistent with crack cocaine residue based on his narcotics training and experience.
Police reported that Sollers became increasingly loud and argumentative after the item was found. He was placed in a patrol vehicle and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center without further incident.
Sollers is charged with possession of a controlled substance other than cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. The controlled substance identified in the allegations is cocaine.
Sollers appeared before a judicial officer on the evening of July 9, 2026, and waived an attorney for that initial appearance. He was released on his own recognizance without posting money. His release conditions require him to avoid criminal activity and appear in court when directed.
A public defender entered an appearance for Sollers on July 13, 2026, and filed requests for a speedy trial and access to prosecution evidence. A court date is scheduled for August 24, 2026, at 1 p.m. in Calvert District Court.
