July 21, 2026

On Monday, July 20, 2026, at approximately 7:40 p.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the area of St. Andrews Church Road and Old St. Andrews Church Road in California, for the reported motor vehicle collision with unknown injuries.

Initial reports indicated one vehicle was involved, the vehicle was smoking, and it was not immediately known whether anyone was trapped or injured. Additional information received by emergency communications a short time later indicated one occupant was trapped inside the vehicle.

Bay District Station 9, Squad 7, Squad 1, and surrounding EMS companies were alerted to the incident. Engine 91 and Chief 3B (Vanness) responded, with Engine 91 arriving to find one vehicle off the roadway and against a tree with one occupant trapped.

Firefighters from Bay District and Leonardtown worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle, gain access to the trapped occupant, and safely remove the patient. Extrication was completed within approximately five minutes.

One patient refused medical treatment at the scene, and one patient was transported to a local hospital with injuries reported as non-life-threatening.

Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 was initially requested to transport one patient by air, but the helicopter response was later canceled.

The roadway was closed in both directions while crews operated.
