On Thursday, July 23, 2026, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull a vehicle over for excessive speed and crossing the center line.
The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed before travelling onto Morganza Turner Road.
A short time later, the suspect vehicle struck a utility pole in the area of Johnson Lane, where both occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the woods.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and Aviation Command responded to assist.
Trooper 7 was flying overhead to assist until they diverted to a medical emergency in Charles County for a child suffering life-threatening injuries from a boating accident.
Both subjects were apprehended a short time later without further incident.
Deputies are investigating the incident and updates will be provided when they become available.
