On Friday, July 24, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the intersection of Crain Highway and Mitchell Road in La Plata, for the serious motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle with one unconscious.
Multiple 911 callers reported a “really bad accident” with a motorcyclist laying in the roadway and not moving.
Crews arrived on the scene to confirm a two vehicle collision with one adult male with life-threatening injuries.
Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 was launched to land nearby.
Trooper 7 transported the 20-year-old male to the MedStar Washington Hospital Center with life-threatening injuries.
EMS transported 74-year-old male to an area hospital with minor injuries.
NB and SB Crain Highway at Rosewick and Mitchell Road is CLOSED for the crash investigation and helicopter landing. Police are investigating the collision. Use caution in the area and expect extended delays.
