Kevin Jerome Chase, 56, of Great Mills, is facing felony cocaine distribution and possession-with-intent-to-distribute charges, a misdemeanor cocaine possession charge and four additional misdemeanor charges stemming from two separate incidents in Lexington Park.
The most recent charges followed an encounter late July 17, 2026, near Great Mills Road. According to allegations filed by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, a sergeant on routine patrol saw Chase in a parking lot and sidewalk area shortly before 11:20 p.m.
The sergeant reported seeing Chase walk to a doorstep and place something on the ground. Seconds later, another person arrived, spoke briefly with Chase and appeared to retrieve something from the same location. Both men then began walking away before the sergeant stopped them.
The second person turned over two small pieces of suspected crack cocaine and “admitted to having purchased the cocaine for $30 from Chase,” according to the written account. The sergeant returned to the doorstep and reported finding $30 in cash.
The account states that Chase then “admitted to having more crack cocaine.” A small tied plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine was reportedly recovered from him. Investigators said the substance appeared consistent with the suspected cocaine turned over by the other person.
Chase was charged with distribution of a narcotic, possession of a controlled substance other than cannabis and possession of a narcotic with intent to distribute. The allegations identify the substance as crack cocaine.
Chase initially waived an attorney for his first appearance and requested a preliminary hearing. He was ordered held without bond after a judicial officer found a reasonable likelihood that he posed a danger to another person or the community. Release conditions included appearing in court, avoiding criminal activity and abstaining from alcohol and the unlawful use or possession of controlled substances.
At a July 20, 2026, bond review, Chase was released on his own recognizance. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. August 13, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court. The St. Mary’s County Public Defender’s Office entered an appearance on his behalf July 22.
The July arrest came several weeks after Chase was charged in connection with a June 1, 2026, encounter on Great Mills Road.
In that incident, a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputy reported seeing Chase walking in front of a business while the deputy was parked nearby. The deputy said he spoke casually with Chase and noticed what appeared to be several tied plastic bags protruding from his clothing.
Chase allegedly produced a paper fold from his right sock containing approximately half a gram of cocaine. Beneath it, the deputy reported finding a tied plastic bag containing approximately 2.5 grams of crack cocaine.
The substances were identified based on the deputy’s training and experience, according to the application. Chase’s identity was confirmed through a Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration photograph.
That incident resulted in two counts of possession of a controlled substance other than cannabis—one involving cocaine and another involving crack cocaine—and two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. The paraphernalia was described as a paper fold and a plastic bag used to store the substances.
Chase was issued a summons rather than arrested in the June case. A preliminary inquiry was held July 10, 2026, and a court date is scheduled for 1 p.m. August 25, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court.
