Harold “Harry” Irving Berg, Sr., 72 of Leonardtown, MD, died February 20, 2017 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C., with his loving family at his side.
He was born May 28, 1944 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Irving Harold Berg and Ina Marie Maki.
On June 22, 1962, Harry enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country as an Electronics Technician until his Honorable Discharge in August 1966. During his service he earned the National Defense Service Medal. On August 18, 1966, Harry married his beloved wife, Linda. Together, they celebrated over 43 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on December 18, 2009. He was employed as an Electronics Engineer Supervisor at Patuxent River Naval Air Station for over 30 dedicated years before retiring. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed traveling many places with their friends and family. He was an avid reader, enjoyed solving Sudoku puzzles and watching his favorite TV show, Jeopardy. His additional hobbies included fishing, crabbing, gardening and watching local softball. He also enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, the Maryland Terps Basketball, the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles. Quality time spent with his family and friends were extremely important to him.
Harry is survived by his children, Janet Lightburn (Wayne) of Dover, DE and Harold I. Berg, Jr. (Brook) of St. Inigoes, MD; his siblings, Janyce Brown of Zimmermann, MN and Harvey Berg (Roxanne) of Stacey, MN; his grandchildren, Brandon, Breanna, Kasandra, Bailey, Brett, and Brenden; and his great grandson, Brayden. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Linda Berg.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., with a Memorial Service celebrated by Father Scott Woods at 3:00 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment will be private.
