David Carl Oliver, 59, of Great Mills, MD passed away February 20, 2017.
He was born April 21, 1957 in Abington, PA to the late James Dominic Oliver and Charlotte Jean (Wetzel) Oliver.
David is a 1975 graduate of William Tennent High School in Warminster Pennsylvania and later attended Penn State University studying math and computer science. He started his career with SEMCOR, Inc. as a Programmer then was hired as a Computer System Analyst by the Federal Government at the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, Pennsylvania. In 1996, he moved to St. Mary’s County Maryland and started his current position of IT Specialist for the Department of the Navy at the Naval Air Warfare Center at Patuxent River. As a youth, he participated in Boy Scouts earning the rank of Life Scout and was a member of the honorary Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed bowling and bowled in several leagues for many years. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. He also followed Penn State Nittany Lions Football. He enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises. He was an active member of Patuxent Presbyterian Church, including the Men’s Group, the church Softball Team, and the JOY (Just Older Youth) Group. For many years, he took leave to help at Vacation Bible School. He volunteered with SMARTCO, a non-profit that refurbishes, repairs, and donates computers and electronics. His feline friends, Snickers and Nymph, were very well loved and he greatly enjoyed their companionship.
David is survived by his siblings, James Oliver (Joann) of Millersville, MD and Terese Wells (Dan) of Prince Frederick, MD; his nieces and nephews, Paul Oliver, Marie Oliver, Michael Oliver, Rebecca Wells, and Andrew Wells, and many extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 16 years, Constance Clayton Oliver.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated by Pastor Mike Jones on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 11:30 am at Patuxent Presbyterian Church, 23421 Kingston Creek Road, California, MD 20619. Interment will be private.
