Robert Franklin Tippett, Jr. passed away on July 26, 2017 at McLeod Regional Hospital in Florence, South Carolina. He was born August 12, 1935 in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and one son. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy A. Tippett, two brothers and two sisters, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
In 1956 he was called for active duty with the United States Army, and attended service school at Fort Devens, Massachusetts with the Army Security Agency. After completing nine months of training, he was selected to stay on at the service academy as an instructor. Upon discharge in July of 1960, he enlisted with the Maryland Army National Guard, and then attended the Nike Missle and Nuclear War Head School in Ft. Bliss, Texas. He worked as a Missile and Vehicle Mechanic on the Nike Missile Bases for more than 31 years, finally retiring in April, 1992. Bob then worked for Sears retail store in the tools and hardware department as a sales and cashier associate for five years, where he won many awards, including their 5 star award.
Bob and Dot left Maryland and moved to Florida in 1995 where they lived for 18 years. In 2013, they settled near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to be closer to family. He had a passion for motorcycles, owning four different bikes throughout his life. He also loved trucks, boating, fishing, gardening, carpentry, and making wood crafts. He was beloved by his family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence Griffith, Dallas Griffith, Keith Griffith, Robert DeLawder, Austin DeLawder, Robert F. Tippett, III.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., prayers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 2, 2017 at Brinsfield- Echols Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall Maryland. Burial will take place at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham on Thursday August 3, at 11:00 a.m.
