On December 23, 2017 at approximately 5:45 p.m., Deputy Buckler of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 4007 3rd St, North Beach, MD for the report of an unconscious person at a residence. Buckler arrived on the scene and was greeted by a 7-year-old boy who said his mom, Heatherlaura Louise Marenco, 41 of North Beach, was in the bathroom.
Upon seeing his mother passed out and not responding, the young boy called 911 and told operators that his mother was not breathing.
Marenco eventually told police that she took 2 percocet pills at 3:00 p.m. and later told then told EMS personnel that she snorted heroin.
Marenco and her son were the only ones in the residence at the time of the incident. Marenco was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital by EMS to treat her drug overdose.
The young boy stayed at the neighbor’s house util his father arrived to pick him up. The boy told EMS his mother was in the bathroom for approximately 13 minutes.
Police ultimately collected Marenco’s phone as evidence, and contacted Child Protective Services.
Based on the fact that the boy was left alone unsupervised while his mother was snorting heroin and subsequently overdosed, police charged Heatherlaura Louise Marenco with one misdemeanor count of neglecting of a minor. Marenco posted $5,000 bond and has a court date set for February 8,2018 at the Calvert County District Court.
