On October 23, 2017, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Ace Hardware store in Charlotte Hall for a reported theft that just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with a store manager who told police a black male left the store carrying a chainsaw without paying. According to the manager, the defendant ran with the chainsaw as soon as he briefly made contact with him. The manager then attempted to run after the defendant by foot, but was unable to catch him.

The manager described the defendant as a mustachioed black male, approximately 5’10” to 6 feet tall, wearing a light blue t-shirt and dark blue pants. The defendant entered the store around 5:15 p.m., walked straight to the section where the chainsaws are located and grabbed a Husqvarna Chainsaw 445 Rancher valued at $450.00.

The following day, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office received an email from Cpl. Gottschall of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office) identifying the defendant as Kevin Jerry Green, Jr., 31 of Bryantown.

Officers responded to the defendant’s residence and spoke with him. Green corroborated the store manager’s account of the incident and admitted to stealing the chainsaw, telling officers he planned to sell it at a pawn shop or to a private party.

On January 30, 2018, a criminal summons was served to Kevin Green, Jr. for theft.

Green has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 2, 2018 at the St. Mary’s County District Court.
