On January 14, 2018, Cpl. Foor of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 49000 block of Fresh Pond Road, in Scotland, for a reported assault. Upon arrival, contact was made with the victim who advised police that her boyfriend, Tyler Deshaun Camile Roberts, 23, of Scotland, had assaulted her.
The woman told police that she enjoyed a night out with friends, and came home to an intoxicated Roberts who was furious that she left the home.
She stated Roberts then pushed her onto the bed and began to strangle her around her neck. She stated she tried to get him off of her, leading to Roberts biting her on her right cheek). During the assault, the victim said Roberts had a large kitchen knife, approximately 12 inches in length, that he used to cut her left wrist. According to the victim, Roberts then proceeded to cut his left arm and stated he was going to kill himself. At this point, the victim stated she screamed for help.
Hearing her friend’s plea for help, a concerned witness, came into the house. According to the witness, Roberts was strangling the victim upon her arrival. The witness yelled at Roberts, pleading for him to get off the victim and stop attacking her, which he did upon request. The witness then called 911 and brought the victim safely to her neighboring house.
Officers observed a bite mark to the victim’s right cheek on her face, a small laceration to her left wrist and redness to her neck area from where she was strangled. Roberts was arrested and charged with first-degree and second-degree assault. At his January 16, 2018 hearing, Roberts was denied bond and is awaiting a preliminary hearing February 8, 2018 at the St. Mary’s County District Court.
