Michele Yvonne Heier, 53, of Prince Frederick
On January 18, 2018, at approximately 10: 50 p.m., Troopers Warrick and Davis from the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack responded to Clay Hammond Road, in Prince Frederick, for a reported overdose. Upon our arrival, they made contact with a juvenile who had consumed a large amount of prescription medication prior to their arrival.
One of the responding troopers had been to the residence a few times in the past for similar incidents, the last being January 12, 2018. Once the child was evaluated by emergency medical personnel it was apparent they needed to be transported to Calvert Hospital.
Once the juvenile was cared for, both troopers made contact with the mother, Michele Yvonne Heier, 53, of Prince Frederick. Heier had an active summons for charges of child neglect against her from a similar incident approximately a week prior. While TFC Davis was speaking to Heier, TFC Warrick was able to detect the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Heier’s breath and person. Heier’s speech was slow and slurred, and she struggled to control the volume of her voice. TFC Warrick asked Heier how much she had been drinking, Heier advised “she had had too much to drive.” She advised TFC Davis she would not go to the hospital. At this time, the Summons paperwork was completed, and Heier was subsequently arrested, placed in handcuffs and secured in TFC Davis’ vehicle, for transport to the Calvert County Detention Center. Heier would later submit to a Preliminary Breath Test at the detention center, resulting in .13 BAC. Heier advised she had been drinking since she had returned home from work, and it’s how she relaxes after work, which is stressful. Police said in court documents that alcohol has been an issue each time they have responded to Heier’s residence with regards to her juvenile child’s wellbeing. Heier has been charged with child neglect two times prior.
Police said Heier was to impaired to ensure her child was properly admitted into Calvert Memorial Hospital, which requires a legal guardians signature to ensure they are allowed to receive treatment, and she had to be threatened with arrest during the last incident. In this incident Heier also refused to go to Calvert Memorial, and was too far impaired by alcohol to provide proper adult supervision to her child, when she unable to prevent her child from obtaining access to 30-40 Olanzapine tablets and consuming all of them.
Heier was charged with neglect of a minor and reckless endangerment.
