Eugene Louis Johnson Jr., 36, of Leonardtown, was arrested on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, by Deputy J. Stonehill of the King George County Sheriff’s Office and is charged with 10 counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.
Johnson is currently being held in the Rappahannock Regional Jail, and is scheduled in King George General District Court, on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.
Police say Johnson met the women on the online dating website Plenty of Fish, using the aliases “Tony Taylor” and “Michael Royer,” he would then contact the women directly after a day or two of online chatting. Johnson would tell the women he was a military officer, and he had either been robbed or was in serious financial trouble with the IRS. Johnson would then convince the women by telephone or in person to either send him money or give him money directly. Police said one of the woman gave Johnson $80,000.
None of the ten victims live in King George, Virginia, but many of them met Johnson in King George County at his request.
The victims identified so far are from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Texas.
