On Sunday, February 4, 2018, at approximately 10:35 a.m., Trooper M. Zentkovich from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack, conducted a traffic stop on a black Honda Accord for exceeding the posted speed limit on northbound U.S. Route 301 and Sub Station Road, in Waldorf.

The driver was identified as Daniel Abebe Elias, 24, of Clinton. While Trooper Zentkovich was completing the traffic stop, Elias exited his vehicle and began to walk away from the scene. When ordered to stop Elias initially complied with the order. Upon the arrival of Trooper J. Lee, Elias again began to walk away from the scene. Troopers Zentkovich and Lee again ordered Elias to stop and he then refused. Trooper Zentkovich attempted to take Elias into custody and Elias forcibly pulled away. Trooper Lee completed a take-down of Elias and he and Tpr. Zentkovich were able to secure Elias in handcuffs. Elias still attempted to flee and began attempting to kick the Troopers who were escorting him. Elias was secured in one of the Charles County Sheriff’s vehicles which were equipped with a transport cage.

Elias was confirmed to have an open warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office. While securing Elias’ vehicle to be towed from the scene, Trooper Zentkovich detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle revealed no CDS, however an unloaded Sig Sauer model SP2340 .40 cal handgun was located in the glove box and a loaded magazine was located on the back seat of the vehicle. The handgun and magazine were secured from the vehicle.

Elias was transported to Charles Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in La Plata, MD. While at CRMC, Elias continued to attempt escape and damaged hospital equipment in the process (estimated value of $4,000).

Elias was charged with Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm, Illegal Possession of Ammunition, Resisting Arrest and Malicious Destruction of Property over $1000.

That Sig is a very nice pistol. He had it unloaded and the ammo was kept in another area of the car. Should get some cred for that.

Too bad he had to get animalistic with the cops – and also in the hospital.

After you act like a fool, hope goes down hill from there.

I guess all the police have to do is say they thought they smelled weed to go through a vehicle? Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they caught the dude but is it coincidence that they never found any paraphernalia?

Maybe you have never been around someone that smokes weed or maybe you have been around weed too much. Weed stinks something awful. If it is smoked in a vehicle, that vehicle will smell for weeks to someone that doesn’t smoke it. The smell gets in the seats, in the vents, in your cloths, and anyplace else that is in the vicinity of the burning sticky icky. The only way to ensure the smell is not in your car or on your cloths is to not smoke in your car and put on freshly washed cloths before you go out.

So the cop was lying? If they were towing the car they can go through it anyway so the point is moot.

Rgardless they were legal to search it, they do an inventory of any vehicle they gotta have towed, but nice try loser.

Wow, sounds like he is trying real hard to work his way up to a felony so he can never own a gun legally. Of course, that probably will not stop him from owning one since he does not appear to care about laws and following rules.
