Clement “Miles” Mattingly, 95 of Avenue, MD passed away on February 9, 2018 in the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, MD. Born on July 17, 1922 in Leonardtown, MD he was the son of the late Agnes Gertrude Miles Mattingly and Charles Jenkins Mattingly, Sr. Miles is survived by his siblings: Ann Mattingly of Boston, VA, Margaret Yowaiski of Leonardtown, MD, Ruth Brown of LaLuz, NM, Mary Jane Mattingly of Leonardtown, MD, Joseph Mattingly of Chaptico, MD and Joan Frances Raley of Avenue, MD. He is preceded in death by his sibling: Jenks Mattingly, Betty Potts and Mary Agnes Farrell.
Miles was a lifelong St. Mary’s County resident. He served in the United States Army from January 27, 1943 to January 5, 1946. While serving in the Army, Miles received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon.
Miles was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and the Washington Nationals. He was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. Miles had a very strong faith in God.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM with Father Anthony Lickteig officiating. Interment will follow in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be: Al Railey, Jr., Jay Farrell, Ronnie Farrell, CJ Mattingly, Mike Yowaiski and Richard Potts.
