Harold Augustin Gordon entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Lovingly and affectionately known as ‘Irving’ and ‘Gus’ to his family and friends, Harold Augustin Gordon was born on April 7, 1946 to the late Evelyn Gordon and James Coates.
Harold was employed by the Prince George’s County government for over thirty years, receiving numerous certifications and awards. After being retired from the County for two years, and through the “urging” of his wife, he returned to work at Almost Family, a facility for disabled people. Although he was nudged into returning to work, he enjoyed working with the patrons and continued at Almost Family for over five years before going into full retirement.
Gus was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. His love of motorcycles spanned over fifty years, leading him to become a member of various motorcycle clubs, culminating with him becoming president of the Midnight Rollers. They loved traveling to Bike Week in Daytona Beach, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina every year.
As he relaxed into his retirement, Gus decided that it was time to put away his beloved Harley and return to his first love, restoring classic cars. He continued to restore a variety of cars until his health failed. Along with his love of bikes and cars, he loved family, and living in the country. Gus especially loved taking road trips, whether it was to visit his wife’s family in Georgia, or to celebrate birthdays and family reunions. He had a special love for all of them.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted and beloved wife Vivian, his daughters Kim,and Idroma (Patrick); his sons: Steve (Lakeisha), Harold (Tham), Damond (Deneene), and Derrick (Lynnette). His grandchildren: Davon, Deshon, Dkaree, Delonta, Ashley, Kailynn, Derrick Jr, Cailou and Cathy. He is also survived by his devoted aunts: Delores (Frances) and Bernice, his uncle: Bill (Artena); brother-in-law Marion (Sheila), and sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Pamela; and a host of cousins and beloved friends. Harold was well loved and will be truly missed by all his friends and family.
Family and friends will unite on Monday, February 19, 2018 for visitation at 10 am until time of service at 11 am at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 2294 Old Washington Rd, Waldorf, MD. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Rd, Clinton, MD 20735.
