Mary Estelle Johnson Carroll, 87

February 17, 2018

Mary Estelle Johnson Carroll, 87, was born February 20, 1930 to the late Allen and Mary Ethel Johnson. Estelle was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church.

Estelle was a caretaker for many years. She had a great passion for caring for others. Her joyful moments were making homemade wine and homemade cakes; no Betty Crocker box mix. Estelle enjoyed baking cakes for the annual festival. She also enjoyed talking on the telephone to family and friends until the wee hours of the morning. She took great pride in gardening, especially her rose bushes and flowering plants. Estelle was known for being a very stylish dresser and enjoyed keeping her hair done on a regular basis. She had a special relationship with her cousin, Frances “PeeWee” Campbell and Mary Agnes Robinson. A special thank you to her nephew, Gene Bryan, for all of the acts of kindness he has shown and for always being there at a moment’s notice, Martin Carroll, who always took Estelle to her doctor appointments and Roland Milburn, who faithfully called Estelle every morning and every night to check on her well-being.

In addition to her mother and father, Estelle is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Edward Carroll; two brothers, Leonard and George Johnson; three brothers-in-law, Tony, Gene and Grandville ”Stick” Carroll; one grandson, Anthony Ray Bryant, Sr, whom she raised, and one great-grandson, Demario Raquon Bryant.

Estelle leaves to cherish her memories one loving daughter, Shirley Johnson (Rubin) and one son, George Holly (Darlene); four sisters-in-law, Theresa Johnson, Bertille Bryan, Dorothy Barnes and Geraldine Carroll; two granddaughters, Tameika and Tiffanie Holly; great granddaughter, Laprea Bryant; one great-grandson, Anthony Bryant, Jr., one great-great grandson, Kaiden Parran and her Godchildren, Delora Crafton Chase and Gail Somerville.

Family and friends will unite on Friday, February 16, 2018 for visitation at 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 16922 Saint Peter Claver Rd, Ridge, MD 20684. Interment to follow at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
