Mars Dubree Leadmon, 90, of Fort Washington, was peacefully escorted into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 17, 2018. Our beloved father rests in eternal glory after boldly devoting his life to sharing the Good News of the gospel.
Mars was born on April 12, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the son of Earl T. and Thelma V. Joplin Leadmon and brother to Rose (Denny) Neff and August (Lynn) Reed. At age 17, he enlisted in the Navy during World War II and proudly served in the South Pacific. After his military service, he followed the postwar boom to the Washington, D.C. area and labored as an ironworker on numerous buildings, including the U.S. Capitol and the reconstruction of the White House. Later, Mars became the proprietor and master technician of the AARO Overhead Garage Door Company. But to all who knew Mars, his greatest work began at the age of 27, when he was transformed by his faith in Jesus Christ and committed his heart to serving God. Beyond a doubt, Mars’ highest calling and tireless passion was in spreading the Word of God.
Mars was blessed with a large and loving family by his late wife Minnie Marie “Penny” Brinegar and their five children, Patricia (Carl) Snyder, Lorren (Terry) Leadmon, Gina (John) Stoutenburgh, the late Mark (Sarah) Leadmon, and Jeffrey (Donna) Leadmon. He was very proud of his 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. After being widowed, Mars’ family grew when he married the late Betty Curtis and became stepfather to her three children.
Family and friends are invited to Mars’ Life Celebration at Grace Chapel, 39245 Chaptico Rd., Helen, MD on Thursday, February 22 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. Dr. Carl H. Snyder will officiate the funeral at Grace Chapel on Friday, February 23 at 11:00am. A private family burial will be held in Huntington, WV, at a later date.
