On Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at approximately 4:00 a.m., deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded Mary Helen Way, in Leonardtown, for the report of shots fired.
Upon arrival police located a Buick Lacrosse, abandoned in the ditch. The vehicle was unoccupied and still running. The front and rear registration plates were covered by plastic bags. Police observed cash on the driver’s seat and a bag on the passenger’s seat. Police then observed a silver Chevrolet Impala in the parking lot that had fresh neon green paint sprayed on several areas of the car.
The county emergency communications center received a phone call stating the residence was struck by gun fire. Three people were located inside of the residence during the shooting. One male victim advised he was standing at the mirror in his bedroom when Nicholas Bruce Osborne, 18, of California, stood outside of the glass door and said “Yo”, the victim said he turned around and saw Osborne wearing a black jacket with a red bandana across his face. The victim stated Osborne pointed a handgun at him then began shooting at him as he ran upstairs. A male and female victim were also in the same bedroom, asleep on the bed, when the defendant began shooting.
After a lookout was broadcast for a suspicious male walking in the area, a Deputy located Osborne, who was identified by his Maryland driver’s license. Osborne was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and had a red bandana in his possession.
Osborne stated the Buick Lacrosse was his vehicle and he became stuck in the ditch when he made a U-turn. Police observed neon green paint on the defendant’s fingers, and while being detained, metal knuckles were located in Osborne’s pocket.
Osborne was placed in custody and when he was escorted to a police car, he saw the victim, and yelled “f##k you dude, I spray painted your car green.” Osborne then stated, “I shot at him,” referring to the male victim.
An inventory search of the Osborne’s car revealed a large quantity of packages containing suspected marijuana.
Osborne was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center and charged with the following criminal violations:
- Assault 1st Degree (3counts)
- CDS Distribution with a Firearm
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotics
- Dangerous Weapon-Conceal
