Bernard James McKenna, 80 of Waldorf, MD, passed away at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, MD on February 24, 2018. Bernard was born on May 20, 1937 to the late James Patrick McKenna and Clara Victoria Muzydla in Jerome, PA. Bernard “Mac” served in the United States Air Force and once home worked as a roofer and auto body tech mechanic until the mid 1960’s when he and his wife Fran started McKenna’s Auto Body in Brandywine MD. In 1994 he and Fran sold the shop and retired. Mac was a member of the American Legion Post 227 in Brandywine MD and while there he would visit the Veterans homes in the DC area and talk with the local Vets and their families. Mac always gave back to his fellow veterans and community. He was a hardworking man who loved his wife of 61 years, his 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
Bernard is survived by his loving wife, Frances Mae Harrison McKenna; sons, James Patrick McKenna, Michael Edward McKenna; daughters, Pamala McKenna Kane (Joseph Kane), Karen Lynn Benfield; and four grandchildren, James Kane (Kayla Kane), Elizabeth Kane, Michaela and Samantha Benfield along with several nieces and nephews.
Family will recieve friends for Bernard’s Life Celebration visitation on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 5pm to 8pm at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD. Funeral Services will be on Friday, March 16 at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623 at 1:45PM.
