Our team took to the streets to see what people thought of Maryland’s 3rd Congressional voting district. I don’t know about you, but I see rampant gerrymandering.
Free and fair elections are the very foundation of American democracy and the most basic promise that those in power can pledge to citizens. Unfortunately in Maryland, we have been singled out for having some of the most gerrymandered and unfair voting districts in the nation.
That is why our administration has introduced the the Redistricting Reform Act of 2018, which will once and for all remove the politics – and the politicians – from the process of drawing their own districts. This legislation provides for an independent, nonpartisan redistricting commission that will create a fair, open, and transparent redistricting process.
The people of Maryland desperately want and certainly deserve balance, fairness, and bipartisanship in our state. This is not a fight between Democrats and Republicans – this is a fight for Maryland’s future.
