On Thursday, March 15, 2018, at approximately 2:25 p.m., Trooper First Class J. Oleksak from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack was conducting stationary speed enforcement northbound on Route 210 at Downs Drive, in Bryans Road.
TFC Oleksak observed a Gold Nissan Maxima with the driver not restrained by a seatbelt. TFC Oleksak conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and made contact with the operator who was identified as Mavin Dayonde Bell, 37, of Bryans Road.
Upon making contact with Bell, TFC Oleksak detected the strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. TFC Oleksak requested Bell exit the vehicle so a probable cause search could be conducted.
The search revealed a loaded handgun and suspected Marijuana.
Bell was placed under arrest and charged with the following:
- Operator of a Motor Vehicle Not Restrained By Seat Belt
- Handgun: Wear/Carry and Transport In Vehicle/Public Roads, etc.
