David Arthur Nortrup

David Arthur Nortrup passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 5, 2018, with his wife, Martha and sister-in-law, Linda Pero by his side.

David was born on February 12, 1950, in Orange Township, New Jersey to Herman Henry Nortrup II and Mary Frances Tisseker Nortrup. He graduated from Middletown Township High School in 1968 and from Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston) in Charleston, West Virginia in May 1972.

During high school, David interned at Ft. Monmouth military base in New Jersey. Following college, David served in the National Guard and began working for the Fish and Wildlife Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior as a Chemist. His work with Fish and Wildlife took him to Ann Arbor, Michigan and Laurel, Maryland. David transferred to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head, Maryland, then to the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition in 1990. David retired with over 28 years of Federal service in 2006. David met his wife, Martha, while working at the Naval Surface Warfare Center. They married in February of 1991.

In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his brother, Herman (Butch) Henry Nortrup III.

He is survived by his wife, Martha and stepdaughter, Amy Willey (Joshua); brothers, John (Carol) and William; sister, Betsy; and nieces and nephews from both New Jersey and Maryland.

David was a gentle and quiet man who loved his family and pets. He enjoyed reading, computer games, and a good beer with family and friends.

David will be cremated with a celebration of his life to be scheduled at a later date.
