Board of Education Honors Four Exemplary Charles County Public School Students for Achievements

The Board of Education at its November 13 meeting honored four Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students for accomplishments in the areas of academic achievement, career readiness and personal responsibility. Honored were Adebola “Addie” Oluyede, Pamela Rentz, Nathan Schuessler and Donovan Smith.

Oluyede is an eighth-grade student at Theodore G. Davis Middle School and was honored by the Board in the area of academic achievement. She is an honor-roll student and demonstrates a positive work ethic in the classroom. She is known among her teachers as a kind and respectful student who gives her best effort in all that she does. Oluyede is a member of the school orchestra and recently participated in All-County Orchestra. Her peers recognize her as a leader with exemplary character. Oluyede also serves as president of the Davis National Junior Honor Society.

Rentz is a senior at Westlake High School and was honored by the Board in the area of personal responsibility. She is well known among both her peers and teachers as someone who exudes positive energy and stands out among her classmates. She is an honor-roll student and manages several extracurricular activities. Rentz is historian for the Westlake Class of 2019 and first vice president of the Charles County Association of Student Councils (CCASC). She also leads in student government at the state level as a member of the legislative affairs committee for the Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC). In addition to her leadership in student government, Rentz also leads among the school symphonic and jazz bands and as a drum major for the Marching Wolverines. She plays volleyball and runs both indoor and outdoor track, and is a member of the school Key Club and Mock Trial team.

Schuessler is a fifth-grade student at Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy Elementary School and was recognized before the Board in the area of academic achievement. He is enrolled in accelerated classes and is consistently named to the school’s honor roll. Schuessler models personal responsibility by following the three R’s at Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy – being ready, responsible and respectful each day. He is a member of the school math and Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) teams, as well as participates in robotics and Destination Imagination. Outside of school, Schuessler likes working with animals and enjoys spending time on a farm his family has in Kansas.

Smith is a fifth-grade student at Indian Head Elementary School and was honored before the Board in the area of career readiness. Smith is an honor-roll student and is enrolled in accelerated classes. He is well known among his teachers as a hard-working student who excels in the classroom. Smith loves to work on the computer and is an avid story writer. He is a member of the Lego Robotics and math teams, and the school chorus. Outside of school, Smith plays basketball, soccer and writes stories. He plans to join the U.S. Navy after he graduates and wants to work with computer coding.

The Board each month honors students and staff members nominated by their school principal for recognition.
