Giving Tuesday was established as a national day of giving on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. It is a day of charity and volunteerism where people give whatever they are able to. To bring awareness of Giving Tuesday and encourage citizens to donate, the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County have issued a proclamation in recognition of the event.
Giving Tuesday is a day where citizens work together to share commitments, rally for favorite causes, build a stronger community and think about other people. The commissioners believe it is fitting and proper on Giving Tuesday and every day to recognize the tremendous impact of philanthropy, volunteerism and community service in St. Mary’s County. The effort extends to employees of St. Mary’s County.
“Employees demonstrated their commitment to the community by contributing over $9,000 during last year’s campaign to the United Way and to Community Health Charities,” said Commissioner Todd Morgan (4th District). “This year, employees who pledge to make a $2 per pay contribution may participate in Blue Jeans Friday.”
In proclaiming Giving Tuesday, the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County recognize the United Way of St. Mary’s County and Community Health Charities for its involvement in this globally recognized day of benevolence. They also encourage St. Mary’s County citizens to join together to give back to the community in any way personally meaningful.
