14-Year-Old Student Arrested with Loaded Handgun at La Plata High School

April 10, 2019

On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at approximately 10:40 a.m., it was brought to a La Plata High School administrator’s attention that a student had revealed he had a bullet in his possession.

The administrator brought the student to the office and found him to be in possession of a handgun and bullets.

A school resource officer arrested the student and took possession of the firearm and bullets.

The 14-year-old male student was charged as a juvenile with possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a loaded handgun on person, carrying a concealed dangerous weapon and other related charges.

In this case, by law, the student cannot be charged as an adult due to his age.

Cpl. K. Burger is continuing the investigation to determine why the student brought the gun to school.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Cpl. K. Burger at (301) 932-2222.

Do an adult crime-serve adult time!

Agree. If people knew how many guns were truly in the schools they’d have a heart attack.

In this case, by law, the student cannot be charged as an adult due to his age SORRY BUT IF YOU COMMIT AN ADULT CRIME YOU MUST DO THE ADULT TIME, THATS PART OF LIFE KIDDO

    • Anonymous on April 15, 2019 at 12:33 pm

      Yeah “kiddo”!

  3. Anonymous on April 10, 2019 at 3:21 pm

Thats it,let him go with no punishment juvenile or not,The system is a JOKE.He will be back with another gun.

  4. Anonymous on April 10, 2019 at 3:25 pm

My guess is another irresponsible gun owner that did not properly secure their gun away from their kids. Even if it wasn’t, whomever is responsible for this kid getting his hands on a gun should be charged. We don’t need more laws, we need more responsibility and accountability. Proper punishments for those that break the current laws would be a start.

Since when have you posted under the name Anonymous, Shawn?

      • shawn on April 15, 2019 at 12:35 pm

        I have to.

        Someone might beat me up.

    • Anon on April 12, 2019 at 7:18 am

Your assumption is a factless rant.

Guns are the tool. They are stolen many times.

      Save that soapbox for Shawn.

    • Anonymous on April 15, 2019 at 8:13 am

To Leyoy and Anon, since your reading comprehension sucks I will try this again. We DON’T need more laws we need ENFORCEMENT of the current laws. Shawn wants all guns banned. Maybe you two want no gun laws but that is not logical. Punishing those that break our current laws is not too much to ask. Without consequences laws are useless.

Now can we push for metal detectors?

    • Concerned American on April 11, 2019 at 9:55 am

Why? This will cost us tax payers thousands of dollars. Why is this happening so much, I will tell you. No parental involvement with their children and cultural changes in society. I never had this issue 25 years ago in schools. There were even more guns then. When I was in high school, we brought guns to school and left them in our cars because we went hunting right after school. Never any guns brought into school and never any gun violence. So tell me what has changed in the last 25-30 years in Charles County and around the nation? Society has. We desensitize everything and put no value on human life. In my eyes everyone is equal just like in God’s eyes. Everyone’s life is valuable. No a days kids are constantly having kids and these parents are not involved at all or showing these children love and how to treat others. Stop glorifying guns, drug dealers, rappers, degrading women, disrespecting parents, teachers, law enforcement, and then you will see a civilized society instead of a bunch of takers and non-contributors to society.

      • Anonymous on April 11, 2019 at 4:16 pm

        This is 100% accurate!

Says the person who doesn’t know how to use any grammer in that sentence fragment. Oh, you’re real educated.

          • English professor on April 14, 2019 at 4:22 pm

Grammer should be grammar. It’s actually a run-on sentence not a sentence fragment, and real should be really.
            You’re welcome!

      • Anonymous on April 15, 2019 at 11:08 am

I don’t think your last sentence has much to do with a kid bringing a gun to school. I think parents need to let these kids know that guns aren’t toys. At 14 I personally believe that nobody is mature enough to handle that. You also mentioned hunting and I think that kids who go out with their parents and learn to shoot could be why they believe they can walk around with it or think they can handle it because parents let them shoot for whatever purpose. Most of these cases are “I took my fathers gun” which was probably in a drawer instead of a locked box. Rappers or drug dealers probably got guns from a gun black market instead with a scratched off serial number ……so if that last sentence is true these kids are doing it wrong.

How about charging his parents? They in turn can beat his ass!

  7. Shawn is an idiot on April 10, 2019 at 5:30 pm

This is fake. Schools are gun free zones and it’s illegal for anyone under 21 to have a handgun on their person. Gun laws are working like a champ! Now if they would only outlaw heroin.

    • Anonymous on April 11, 2019 at 8:04 am

The laws do work, he was caught and he got charged. It is the punishment phase that is broken. Until they start imposing proper punishments for these crimes and the current laws nothing will get better. I would rather punish the criminals then the law abiding citizens.

      • Concerned American on April 11, 2019 at 10:04 am

That’s right! Plenty of gun laws on the books. Police spend thousands on investigations, catch gun criminals, and judges don’t do their job and let them off. The problem is the judicial system and accountability. Won’t be long before Charles County is in the same boat as Prince George’s County when it comes to crime. The taxes in Charles County are already the highest in Maryland. Keep voting for more crime and higher taxes people and then keep you’re mouth shout because you deserve it!

        • Shawn on April 11, 2019 at 3:54 pm

The only gun law that would work, Would be to totally ban all sale of firearms and confiscated all existing firearms around the country. Problem sloved

          • LWN on April 11, 2019 at 10:33 pm

Criminals don’t follow gun laws and always have access to guns. We need armed citizens!

          • Shawn on April 12, 2019 at 3:34 pm

            Armed citizen commit crimes DA

          • Anonymous on April 15, 2019 at 10:36 am

Awesome idea. I nominate you to go take all existing firearms. Thank you for your service.

        • Shawn on April 12, 2019 at 5:41 pm

Armed citizens don’t follow gun laws and become criminals

    • Boom! on April 11, 2019 at 8:40 am

      Hahahahaha. Love it!

Should probably make murder illegal while were at it, yeah, thats it.

I would bet that he or his classmates have never been taught the Amendments of our constitution.

The schools are far too busy with the socialist party, hate white conservatives, and “love your local Muslim” agenda, to teach anything genuinely “American”.

The ammo and weapon confiscated are probably just some “show and tell” props assembled to convey the “gangsta wanna-be” point of view.

  13. Anonymous on April 11, 2019 at 10:49 am

Metal detectors and random backpack searches needed now! K-9 units do random locker searches at other high schools we need that here now! “We want to get out of Waldorf & put our kids in better schools” …. OK parents then STOP BRINGING the WALDORF problems with you.

  14. This is Sarcasm on April 11, 2019 at 12:10 pm

So charge him as a juvenile and take him to cheltenham until he’s 21 years old, no early release.

I am a freshman student that attends la plata high school, the child in question is named ****** ******, new to the charles county school system this year from DC. from what i understand he was just showing the gun off to try and be cool. he has done other illegal things in the past such as bring weed to school, and bring Hennessy (alcohol) to school. i agree with what many of you have said about charging him as an adult, and charge his parents for letting this happen. i don’t know what possesses children to bring loaded handguns to school. personally, i am not racist, but in this case and all the other cases that have happened earlier in the year, everything has been committed by black people. we had our first intruder in the building, a black man who didn’t even attend the school and punched a student in the face. our second intruder in the building, a bunch of black kids from another high school that stole another students badge to make it look like they attended. obviously the badges aren’t working. our first gun in the school, a black kid carrying pot brownies. and now our second gun in the school, a black kid from DC. there is a pattern here, black people are the problem. they are all migrating, if you will from Waldorf and corrupting la plata. all their gun-glorifying music, and their lack of respect toward authorities. it’s just insane what is going on in schools today.

    • Anonymous on April 12, 2019 at 5:00 am

For some reason I doubt that you are a freshman at La Plata High.
You say you aren’t racist but your words say differently.
      “Black people are the problem.”

Not all black people are criminals or thugs, anymore than all white people are racists.
There are many black people that I know who work hard to put their children through school, work hard at their jobs, who are involved with their children. There are also white people who don’t give a flying F*** about what their kids do!

The schools need to crack down on this kind of behavior in our schools, but there is a limit on what can be done because of laws and whiny assed liberals. The courts and lawmakers need to change laws so these things can be punished with more than a slap on the wrist!

  18. Anonymous on April 13, 2019 at 12:11 pm

Agreed these people black or white know how to work the system. No respect for authority. Always acting like they are the victims. Tougher law enforcement needed in our schools and neighborhoods. The law is for everyone. It doesn’t matter what color or race you are.

  19. Anon on April 15, 2019 at 12:47 pm

No Annonymous. Reading comp is excellent.

You’re the one who seems to have a lack of comprehension, (along with stuck caps).

I will write it again. Try to keep up….I will go into detail since your mommy is probably working and can’t read it to you right now:

Guns are just the selected tool chosen to commit the crime. Thos

e who use the tool for murdering, theft, threats or other crimes are the real problem. Otherwise – the gun sits still and does nothing.

So yeah – enforcement would be nice, but more to the point – How about some punishment that truly fits the crime?

I own some very nice guns. Some large bore guns and and I am a decent shooter as well as precise at reloading my own rounds.

I don’t know why you wet your panties over my comments before.

I certainly don’t side with Shawn.

So maybe you ought to try a third time.
