UPDATE – 11/04/2020: During the investigation, Ronald Alysha Huggins, 25, formally of Waldorf, was identified as the operator of the striking vehicle.
The facts of the case were presented to the Grand Jury for Charles County, and a bench warrant was issued for Mr. Huggins arrest on February 28, 2020 for felony hit and run and other related charges.
Members of the United States Marshal Fugitive Task Force located Mr. Huggins in Georgia on October 22, 2020. Mr. Huggins is currently in custody of the Maryland State Troopers and is being extradited back to Maryland and will be held pending a bond review in Circuit Court.
On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at approximately 3:54 a.m., Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded for a report of a hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on southbound Maryland Route 5 in the area of Montgomery Lane in Waldorf.
Due to the seriousness of the collision, a request was made for the Maryland State Police CRASH Team to respond and assume the investigation.
Investigation revealed on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at approximately 3:55 a.m., a 2019 Ford F-350 operated by Ronald Alysha Huggins was traveling on southbound Maryland Route 5 (Leonardtown Road) in lane number one, south of Montgomery Lane in Charles County, Maryland. At the same time, a pedestrian, Aaron Markeith Rust was in lane number one of Maryland Route 5. The Ford F350 collided with the pedestrian, Mr. Rust.
After the collision, Mr. Huggins stopped the Ford briefly, and then fled the scene. The pedestrian, Aaron Markeith Rust was pronounced deceased on the scene.

UPDATE – 8/13/2019 @ 9:35 a.m.: On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at approximately 03:54 hours, Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded for a report of a hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on southbound Maryland Route 5 in the area of Montgomery Lane in Waldorf.
Due to the seriousness of the collision, a request was made for the Maryland State Police CRASH Team to respond and assume the investigation.
A preliminary investigation conducted by Troopers from the MSP La Plata Barrack and the Maryland State Police CRASH Team indicates Aaron Markeith Rust, 34, of Waldorf, was standing/walking in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle. The striking vehicle fled the scene after the collision. It was determined that the striking vehicle was a newer model white Ford F-250 or F-350 Crew Cab with right front headlamp damage.

8/13/2019: Police in Charles County are investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred on Route 5/Leonardtown Road between Post Office Road and Patchwork Place, in Waldorf.
The motor vehicle accident occurred just after 4:00 a.m.
The victim was described as a male in his 30’s.
Police say the driver took off after striking the man, and have not released a description of the vehicle involved.
