February 8, 2020

On Monday, February 3, 2020, at 4:30 p.m., Officers from the La Plata Police Department, and Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to 602 Charles Street in La Plata, for the reported stabbing.

Officers arrived on the scene to find a 46-year-old male suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen, and a 43-year-old female witness inside the residence. Officers asked the witness who stabbed the victim and she pointed to a man standing in the doorway to the apartment. He was identified as James Bernard Swann, 63, of Pomfret. Officers rendered aid to the victim and detained Swann.

While officers were at the residence, the owner/renter of the apartment arrived on the scene and advised she was at the store when she was contacted via cellphone by her boyfriend, Swann, who advised he stated the victim slapped him, and that he then stabbed him and told her to call the police and an ambulance.

The girlfriend advised she was stunned by what Swann told her and asked Swann what happened, he repeated that the victim slapped him, so he stabbed him.

Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 2 landed at an area hospital and transported the patient to an area trauma center with serious injuries.

Detectives made contact with medical personnel at the trauma center where the victim was transported to, and were advised he was currently being treated for a single stab wound to the abdomen and was being prepared for surgery.

Swann was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Assault First Degree and Assault Second Degree.

Swan was held on a no bond status for under 48 hours, then released on a $20,000.00 bond on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.

Released on bond following a stabbing. If you voted for Brian Frosh, or any democrat, this is your baby. Please don’t complain when you are the victim of a crime.

Ok genius, what’s the other part of the story that justifies a stabbing. I’ll wait.

Don’t start no crap, won’t be no crap. Anything you do, should be done with the objective of winning.

      • Can you hear me? on February 12, 2020 at 8:20 am

        Oh, he’s winning now!

  9. Anonymous on February 11, 2020 at 10:14 am

Everyone is quick to judge a person without knowing the entire story. I hope none of you ever get put in a situation such as this one and have to hear people convicting you just because of something the police say.

Wouldn’t happen to me. It would take much more than a little slap to my face before I would stab someone. I would reasonably have to fear for my life before I would resort to deadly force and even then I don’t know if I could kill. If he would have kept his cool like a sane person than she would have gone to jail for assault and he would have the last laugh. The way it is now she wins and he is the big loser, felon, POS.

    • You need help in more ways than one on February 14, 2020 at 10:27 am

      1. Kids, stay in school so can write complete sentences using correct spelling…unlike Crazy baby (aka Babyloco)
      2. Babyloco, so if someone has problem (beef) with someone else, it’s okay to stab them? The law says that’s not acceptable…but in your mind it is?

Such jerks. Some of you are stuck on DENIAL. You think everything is about politics and democrats. As if Republicans are angels. This case does not scream politics. Such ignorance. The Judges are doing their jobs. Read the law. If they give them too much time, they will end up in court themselves, sued over giving a defendant too much time. Do your research before commenting and furthermore, stop being so judgmental. Karma is coming for those that are so negative and just want to criticize everyone. Look in the mirror. Are you perfect? Are you GOD fearing? Where are you with peace? You must be miserable anytime all you do is comment on the news. Freedom of speech has given people too much of a right. If it’s not nice, keep it to yourself. Get a life outside of an online newspaper.

Janet, honey…I think you are posting on the wrong story. None of your comments align with the other comments.

Umm, you can’t sue a judge. Someone didn’t pay attention in civics class.
