UPDATE: On Thursday, April 23, 2020, at approximately 9:24 p.m., more than 40 firefighters responded to 22390 Douglas Court in Great Mills, for the reported house on fire with subjects possibly trapped.
Crews arrived on the scene to find a 2-story single family residence with fire showing.
Multiple neighbors who called 911 reported it was unknown if the homeowners/occupants were inside the residence, the fire was dispatched as a working structure fire with possible entrapment.
Once firefighters arrived on the scene, an off-duty volunteer firefighter reported all occupants were accounted for, but still had a pet cat still trapped inside the house.
The occupants were alerted to the fire by a neighbor banging on the front door. All occupants were able to escape unharmed, and are being aided by the American Red Cross.
The owner/occupants have been identified as Robert Horton Jr and Tammy Stewart. The estimated loss of structure and contents is valued at $100,000.00
Smoke and fire alarms were present and activated, along with sprinklers systems.
The fire started on the front porch and has been deemed accidental.
4-23-2020: On Thursday, April 23, 2020, at approximately 9:25 p.m., firefighters from Bay District, NAS Patuxent River, and Hollywood responded to Douglas Court and Longfields Boulevard in California, for the reported house on fire with subjects possibly trapped.
Crews arrived on the scene to find a two story single family residence with fire showing from the roof, and the first and second floor.
Firefighters found the majority of the fire on the second floor with extensions into the attic and roofing area, with the fire being extinguished in approximately 25 minutes.
The home occupants were all accounted for prior to the arrival of crews, and are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross.
One firefighter was injured, she was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, where she was treated and released a short time later.
The Office of The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
