UPDATE: No Threat Determined Following Investigation of Incident at Webster Field

UPDATE 10/28/2020 @ 4:30 p.m.: Following reports of an individual with a weapon at Webster Field Oct. 28, 2020, an investigation by Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) has determined that the suspect taken in to custody had no weapon and had not made any threats. The individual has since been released without charge.

NCIS is still investigating what led to an emergency call being made that resulted in Pax River Navy Security personnel responding to what had been initially described as an individual with a weapon at Webster Field’s Building 8140.
At 10:35 a.m.

Oct. 28, NAS Patuxent River emergency services received a report of an individual in Building 8140 at Webster Outlying Field with a firearm. A lockdown of Webster Field was put in place as NAS Patuxent River Security Forces responded to the scene and took a suspect in custody, who was transferred into the custody of NCIS.

A search of the suspect and their belongings found no weapon, and the lockdown was lifted as of 11:15 a.m.


UPDATE 10/28/2020 @ 12:15 p.m.: At 10:35 Oct. 28, 2020 NAS Patuxent River emergency services received a report of an individual in Building 8140 at Webster Outlying Field with a firearm.

A lockdown of Webster Field was put in place as NAS Patuxent River Security Forces and St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s department personnel responded to the scene and took a suspect in custody.

A search of the suspect and their belongings found no weapon. No shots fired and no injuries reported, but the investigation is ongoing.

The scene has been secured and the lockdown has been lifted as of 11:15 a.m.

10/28/2020 @ 11:00 a.m.: There is NO ACTIVE SHOOTER at the Webster Field Annex.We have learned that a person made threats and is now in custody.

Webster Field, under the command of Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River, is located in St. Inigoes, Maryland, approximately 15 miles by road south of NAS Patuxent River (Figure 1). Established in the early 1940s, Webster Field comprises approximately 850 acres.
