10/29/2020: On Thursday, October 29, 2020, at approximately 3:15 a.m., firefighters from Calvert, St. Mary’s and Charles County responded to 7355 Saw Mill Road in Lusby, for the reported structure fire.

The 911 caller reported a house on fire with subjects heard screaming for help in the background before the caller disconnected. Dispatchers later advised several 911 callers reported subjects trapped in the residence.

Crews arrived on the scene to find a two-story residence with fire showing from three sides of the residence, firefighters later confirmed one subject trapped inside.

Firefighters immediately made entry into the residence and encountered heavy fire conditions on the first and second floor with crews reporting holes on the second floor.

Evacuation tones were sounded for all personnel to exit the building due to the compromised floor and no water supply.

Three victims escaped with serious burns and injuries, with one witnesses reporting an adult female jumped from the second floor window. She suffered severe burns.

Medical personnel requested two helicopters and additional medic units, all medevac helicopters were down due to weather. Three victims were transported to area treatment facilities with serious injuries.

Due to live power lines down in the yard, the second floor being burned through with holes throughout the residence, and the roof caving in, firefighters extinguished the fire from the exterior until SMECO secured power to the residence.

The Office of The Maryland State Fire Marshal responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

One adult male is still unaccounted for.

Updates and details will be provided when they become available.
