Lawrence Elliott “Larry” Leary, 94, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 at his home.
Born on January 5, 1926 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Phillip L. Leary and Ruth E. Leary. Mr. Leary served in the U. S. Navy during World War II until he was Honorably Discharged in 1946. He then joined the District of Columbia Fire Department, rising through the ranks to Battalion Fire Chief. Upon his retirement, he remained with the DCFD Union. Mr. Leary enjoyed playing golf and was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Patricia S. Leary.
Mr. Leary is survived by his daughter Kathleen L. Bartek; son L. Elliott Leary Jr. and his wife Lori; grandchildren Joy C. B. Dixon, Michael F. Bartek and his wife Melissa, Daniel Leary and his wife Angela; Sean P. Leary; great grandchildren Bryce Bunker, Hannah Leary, Ashlyn Leary, Ella Bartek, Logan Leary, Alex Bartek, Evan Leary and Natalie Leary.
Service and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, at a later date.
The Leary family is extremely grateful to the care the staff at Baywoods of Annapolis extended to Mr. Leary. Those caregivers were truly angels on earth. Thank you and God bless.
