Joseph Randolph Atchison, 90

Joseph Randolph Atchison, 90, of Prince Frederick, MD died on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.

Joseph was born in Waldorf, MD, later raising his family in Temple Hills, MD. He enjoyed nature walks, attending country music events, attending car shows and anything that involved his family. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and served until 1959, receiving an Honorable Discharge in July 1959.

He worked for the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority for thirty (30) plus years. Joe started out as a streetcar operator, bringing in the last operating streetcar on January 27, 1962 to much fanfare. He retired in 1992 as a Metro Bus Driver. He had received many awards of recognition during his employment.

Joseph is survived by his loving children, sons, Joseph Atchison, Jr., Wayne Atchison (Violet) and daughter, Patricia Lyon (John); seven grandchildren, Benjamin Wilkerson, Steven and Bryan Harris, Samantha Windsor, Jesse Atchison, Jamie Nelson and Lisa Nelson. He is also survived by eleven (11) great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for Joseph’s Visitation on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Funeral Service is scheduled for Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. and officiated by Deacon Bill Kyte at Brinsfield Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall, MD with a graveside service immediately following at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
