It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter and Lifetime member, Kerry White.
Kerry not only served his community as a volunteer for 25+ years, but he also dedicated many years to the children of the Calvert County Public Schools system where he began his career in 1979 and retired in 2011. Of those 32 years, 16 were spent as a building services supervisor at Calvert High.
Although Kerry leaves behind many professional accomplishments, they could never touch or surpass the love he shared for his family, his wife, his children and grandkids. All you had to do was ask Kerry about his grandchildren and his smile would illuminate the area where he stood. Kerry’s eyes would squint a little, his teeth would show and that smile would span from ear-to-ear.
Kerry’s heart beat for those kids and he was always elated to tell anyone all about the girls, what they were into, how old they were, the funny things they did or said. He loved to show new photos, come home with surprises for them and they, in turn, truly brought so much joy into his life. We know his memory will live on in each of them.
Kerry’s heart was also full of service for others. Daytime, overnight, morning, afternoon, it didn’t matter the time, it didn’t matter if he was close to you or not, Kerry was always a helper. It showed in his volunteerism with us, his friendships, his career and through his business. He’s the guy who took care of everything. It doesn’t seem possible that someone who was so strong and such a bright light would be taken from us far too soon. He had so much more life to live.
For those who may not know Kerry fought his cancer battle so incredibly hard. If there was a new treatment to try, he was doing it, if there was a doctor to fly to, he was on an airplane. His passion and desire to live inspired us all. Kerry’s life as a whole continues to inspire us all. He NEVER complained about his battle and even through his hardest days, he was always so exceedingly positive.
We are really going to miss Kerry and his spirit. We cannot thank him enough for his years of service to Company 2. We pray for his family, his loved ones and all of the people he touched during his time here on earth. Rest peacefully. God bless.
