AUDIO: 26-Year-Old Male Transported to Area Trauma Center After Hunting Accident in Lexington Park

On Saturday, November 7, 2020, at approximately 6:05 p.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to Leachburg Road in Lexington Park, for the reported shooting victim.

Dispatchers advised the 911 caller reported a 26-year-old male victim was hunting in the woods when he was accidentally shot in the leg.

Crews arrived on the scene to find citizens transported the 26-year old male from the woods to a nearby residence on Leachburg Road. First responders reported the victim had an entry, and exit wound to his leg, with firefighters reporting it was the result from an arrow/bolt, and not a gunshot.

The victim stated he was walking in the woods when he tripped and fell. During the fall the crossbow fired, the victim was struck in the leg above the knee.

Medics immediately requested a helicopter for his injuries.

Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 landed at Spring Ridge Middle School and transported the victim to an area trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Natural Resources Police responded to investigate.
