One Firefighter Injured During 2-Alarm Structure Fire in Lothian, Three Occupants Displaced

On Saturday, November 7, 2020, at approximately 7:15 p.m., fire and rescue personnel responded to 5501 Sands Road in Lothian, for the reported structure fire.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a large four story house with smoke and fire showing from the basement.

Crews quickly extinguished the basement fire in under 15 minutes. Upon investigation and checking for extensions, firefighters found fire in walls and ceilings on the floors above.

Due to the size of the residence and extensions found. Units requested the assignment to be upgraded to a 2nd alarm and requested a Tanker Task Force and a Working Fire Dispatch.

One firefighter from Dunkirk was injured and transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

All three occupants in the residence were able to escape with no injuries. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced occupants.

Units from Anne Arundel County, Calvert County, Prince George’s County and Annapolis operated on the scene for over 3 hours.
