Mary Frances “Muff” Hannah, 76

November 18, 2020

Mary Frances “Muff” Hannah, 76, of Waldorf, MD passed away at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 with her family by her side. Mary was born on April 12, 1944 in LaPlata, Maryland to the late James F. Cooksey and Elsie Grace (Shlagel) Cooksey.

She met her best friend and forever love Roy Lee Hannah in the summer of 1962 in Indian Head. They married after being together three months on November 2, 1962 and together they spent over fifty-eight (58) years in wedded bliss. They welcomed three daughters: Lorene, Grace and Melissa.

Mary worked a few different jobs throughout her life. She worked as a seamstress in a factory sewing children’s clothes in Maine, and at a paint brush factory. She also worked for her brother at the “rib shack” in White Plains. Her most rewarding career was that of a wife and mother. She was a wonderful woman who loved and cherished her husband, family and friends above all else.

Family time was the at the top of Mary’s list of must haves. She was a doting grandmother of her four (4) grandchildren that called her “Memaw”. Mary’s hobbies included bowling, crafting and crocheting. She made several beautiful afghans for her grandchildren that will be cherished and passed down. She also was a member of the American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary (#238-Hughesville) and VFW (Waldorf). She was also one strong woman that endured so much from her blindness that started in 1983 to being an amputee in 2019.

To know Mary was to know a kind, loving, strong and beautiful soul. She will be missed by many, but not as much as her husband and family. As the leaves turn bright and fall gracefully from their limbs, know Mary is showering her love down upon you and wishing you peace and happiness.

Mary is survived by her husband, Roy Lee Hannah; three daughters, Lorene L. Hannah of Indian Head, MD, Grace L. Comer (John) of Nanjemoy, MD and Melissa F. Ferguson (Sean) of Hughesville, MD; four (4) grandchildren, Katelyn Comer, Zachary Comer, Ashlyn Ferguson and Jakob Ferguson. She is also survived by her sisters, Norma Berry (Bradley), Dot Tippett, Elsie Benfield, Cindy Daughtery (Ed) and Donna Berry (Cliff) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Bobby Cooksey and Eddie Cooksey.

The family will receive friends for Mary’s Life Celebration on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday and officiated by Deacon Bill Kyte at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
