UPDATE: Motor Vehicle Collision Involving Pedestrian in Leonardtown Sends One to Trauma Center, Two to Hospital

UPDATE 12/4/2020: On Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020 at 6:30 p.m., deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Point Lookout Road and Camp Cosoma Road for the report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.

Due to the severity of the injuries sustained by the pedestrian, members of the St. Mary’s County Collision Reconstruction Unit were notified and responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigation determined Joseph Earl Cullison, 57 of Leonardtown, was getting back into his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado which he had stopped on the shoulder of the road. Shannon Marie Quade, 23 of Leonardtown, was traveling southbound on Point Lookout Road in her 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. As Cullison was opening the door to his vehicle, Quade’s vehicle struck both Cullison and his vehicle.

Cullison was flown by Trooper 7 to Medstar Washington Hospital Center with incapacitating injuries. Quade and a juvenile in her vehicle were both transported by ambulance to Medstar St. Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries.

At this time, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision.

12/3/2020: On Thursday, December 3, 2020, at approximately 6:34 p.m., Ambulance 398 from the Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad came upon a motor vehicle collision in the area of Point Lookout Road and Chingville Road in Leonardtown, with one subject laying in the roadway.

Dispatchers alerted police, fire and rescue personnel at approximately 6:36 p.m., for the motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to report two vehicles on the Southbound shoulder of Point Lookout Road, with emergency medical personnel rendering aid to the pedestrian.

Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 landed at the scene and transported the pedestrian to an area trauma center with serious injuries.

The operator and pediatric occupant of the SUV were transported to an area hospital for precautionary reasons.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation.
