House Fire in Waldorf Deemed Accidental, No Injuries Reported

On Monday, December 7, 2020, at approximately 11:25 p.m., firefighters responded to 12593 Substation Road in Waldorf, for the reported house on fire.

Crews arrived on the scene to find a two story single family dwelling with fire showing.

The owner/occupants are identified as Onyekuru, Cosmas & Tiffany. All three occupants escaped without injury. The estimated loss of structure and content is valued at $200,000

64 fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene and controlled the fire in under 45 minutes.

The cause of the fire was determined to be the ignition of dried vegetation from a wildlife nest adjacent to the vent from the oil fired furnace. The smoke alarms in the home had reportedly been removed during on-going renovations and not reinstalled. An occupant within the home discovered the fire.
