ATCS James Joseph “Jim” Doherty, USN (Ret.), 51

ATCS James Joseph “Jim” Doherty, USN (Ret.), 51 of Leonardtown, MD passed away on December 5, 2020 at Capital Caring Center in Lanham, MD with his wife at his side.

He was born on April 30, 1969 in Malden, MA to Joseph and Ann Hollis Doherty of Rowley, MA.

He was raised in Saugus, MA and in 1988 he graduated from Saugus High School. On January 25, 1993 Jim enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country for over 21 dedicated years until his retirement on August 31, 2014 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He loved everything Navy and earned many citations and medals during his years of decorated service. On January 8, 1994, he married his beloved wife, Jennifer Leah Doherty in Covington, TN. Together they celebrated over 26 wonderful years of marriage. He was tech savvy and was an avid New England Patriots fan and Boston Bruins. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and attending the races. His other hobby was going to the casinos and playing roulette. His family was his greatest love, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he is also survived by his children: Jessica Ray of Lexington Park, MD, Austin Doherty of Lebanon, TN, and Shauna Doherty of Murfreesboro, TN; his siblings, Shannon Rivera (David) of Saugus, MA and John Doherty (Tammy) of Rowley, MA; his grandchildren: Kaiden and Jocelyn Robinson; his in-laws: Alvin and Barbara Brownstein of Mt. Juliet, TN; his brother-in-law: Michael Brownstein of Lakeland, TN; and extended family and friends.

Family will receive friends for Jim’s Life Celebration on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service celebrated at 5:00 p.m. by Reverend Joe Orlando, at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
