Robert “Bob” Frederick Callow, Sr., 89

Robert “Bob” Frederick Callow, Sr., 89, of Leonardtown, MD passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

He was born on March 31, 1931 in Washington, DC to the late John F. Callow and Harriett “Hattie” Callow. He was one of six children.

As a young man, Bob met the love of his life, Concetta “Connie” Scianna. They married in 1954. Bob enlisted in the US Navy in March, 1955. He served his country and family proud and was honorably discharged in March, 1957. He returned home, began working and continued his successful marriage that happily spanned over 66 years. During those years, Bob and Connie welcomed five (5) children, twelve (12) grandchildren and six (6) great-grandchildren.

Bob was a hard-working man who supported his family as a store manager at Safeway. He enjoyed talking with customers and felt his employees were his extended family members. He retired in 1993 and moved to his dream waterfront home in St. Mary’s County. Not one to sit idle for long, Bob began and continued another successful career driving buses and shuttles for private contractors and the County well into his later years.

In his spare time, Bob enjoyed spending time at his beach home in Rehoboth Beach Delaware. Bob also loved the water, boating with his family and friends. In later years he became interested in collecting model cars and trucks. Family was everything to Bob. He was extremely proud of all of his grandchildren and took great pleasure in his great grandchildren. His memory will remain in the hearts of his loved ones.

Bob is survived by his wife, Connie Callow of Leonardtown, Md; children, Theresa Mathews (Robert) of La Plata, Lynn Marshall (Gregory) of Ellicott City, Robert Callow Jr. (Bonita) of Newburg, Michael Callow (Sharon) of La Plata, Mark Callow (Sandra) of Arnold, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, John Callow, Joseph Callow, Edwin Callow, Rita Marcopulos and Helen Crown.

Due to Covid restrictions, funeral services and interment at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham Md. being officiated by Deacon Bill Kyte at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family would request donations be made in Bob’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
