Robert Wade “Bobby” Rawlings, 93, of Cheltenham, MD passed away peacefully at his home on December 11, 2020. Bobby was born in Washington, DC on January 14, 1927 to the late John T. Rawlings and Erna (Schwien) Rawlings. He was one of six children born into his family.
Bobby met the love of his life, Anne C. (Thomas) Rawlings while they were both attending Cheltenham Methodist Church. Married on April 11, 1953, they then expanded their family, welcoming five (5) children: David, Carole, Wade, Larry and Barbara. Bob and Anne celebrated over 62 years of marriage before her passing in 2015.
Bobby grew up farming with his father, and followed him into the plumbing trade. Bob enjoyed working outdoors, building things, fixing old engines, collecting and restoring tractors, farming and gardening. He was particularly proud of his home-grown tomatoes. For many years after his retirement, Bob and his brother Kent drove every Wednesday to the Eastern Shore of Maryland to attend an auction, driving home with a truckload of treasures.
Whether you knew him as Robert, Bob, Bobby, Dad, Grandpa or friend you knew his dedication and love for his family. His legacy is of a man who worked hard, who would help anyone, and most importantly, who was a man of God. His dedication to his faith will be remembered throughout the congregation of the Cheltenham United Methodist Church, where he was a member all of his life, and by those who knew him well.
Bob is survived by his children, David Rawlings (Debbie), Wade Rawlings (Susie), Carole Rawlings-Beckley (Brian) and Barbara Windsor (Chris) and his treasured daughter-in-law Cindy Rawlings Barrett, all of Cheltenham, MD; eleven (11) grandchildren, eight (8) great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne C. Rawlings; son, Larry Rawlings and granddaughter Shelby; parents, John and Erna Rawlings and siblings, John (Kent), Doris, Arlene, Annabelle and Betty Lou.
