Joseph Cross, 72, of Hughesville, MD, passed away on December 15, 2020. He was born on August 27, 1948 in La Plata, MD, to the late Stanley L. Cross and Margaret E. Cross. He attended St. Mary’s School from 1954 – 1962, Notre Dame High School from 1963-1964 and graduated from La Plata High School in 1966. He graduated from the College of Southern Maryland in 1980.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Cross, son Kevin Cross (Janet) and grandchildren, Emily Cross and Caleb Cross. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Ann Fraser.
Joe was an avid videographer, hosting several shows on local tv, “Southern Maryland Metal” and “Southern Maryland Country”. He also owned and operated a local CD and tape store, “Cross’s Music Plus” in Mechanicsville from 1988 to 1991.
Joe worked for the St. Mary’s County Government and Charles County Government, producing many shows for their government channels. He also worked for Channel 10 in Leonardtown, editing the “Best Buys” show.
Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1972 with a tour in South Korea and TDY assignments to Tokyo, Japan. He was also assigned to Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi and survived Hurricane Camille.
Joe was a life member of the American Legion post 238 in Hughesville and was a long time Chaplain for the post.
Joe was a life member of the U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club, Southern Maryland Chapter and was Chaplain for the club also. He loved riding with the club and with his wife.
Joe attended St. Mary’s Church from an early age and was still attending it at the time of his death.
Joe loved attending the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Baseball Team games with Helen from its inception and took many pictures over the years for the team.
Family will receive friends on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall from 6;00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Legion Service at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, MD 20617. Interment will follow immediately in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be his brother patch holders from the Motorcycle Club.
