UPDATE: Mechanicsville Man Killed in Head-on Collision in Waldorf, Maryland State Police Investigating

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.  Maryland State Police has identified the driver of the Ford pickup truck as William Joseph Tucker, 67, of Mechanicsville, Maryland.

Maryland State Police, Press Release: Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred this morning in Charles County.

Shortly after 6:20 a.m. this morning, troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded to northbound Maryland Route 5 at Pinefield Drive in Waldorf, Maryland for a reported two-vehicle crash. According to a preliminary investigation, a silver Toyota Camry was traveling south in the northbound lane on Route 5 and crashed head-on into a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The driver of the truck was declared deceased at the scene. The deceased victim, a male, is not being identified at this time pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the Toyota, a male, was transported by U.S. Park Police helicopter to MedStar Washington Hospital Center for treatment of his injuries.

Route 5 was closed temporarily as a result of the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.


12/18/2020: On Friday, December 18, 2020 at approximately 6:04 a.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to the area of Mattawoman Beantown Road and Pinefield Road in Waldorf, for the motor vehicle collision with one vehicle overturned and two subjects trapped.

Police arrived on the scene to find two vehicles in the roadway involved in a head-on style collision with both vehicles on all four wheels, Officers advised the operators of both vehicles were trapped.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to confirm two vehicles with two subjects trapped. A short time after arrival, firefighters pronounced one victim deceased on the scene.

All helicopters were down due to weather at the time of the request, however, U.S. Park Police later advised they can fly and were requested to the scene.

Crews extricated the trapped victim in approximately 30 minutes.

U.S. Park Police Eagle 1 landed at the scene of the collision and transported one adult victim to an area trauma center with serious injuries.

Police are investigating the collision.
