Mary Evelyn Poland, of Churchton, MD went to be with the Lord during the early morning of November 28, 2020. She was 87 years of age.
Born in Tomahawk, Kentucky Mary was 1 of 15 children born to Lucinda Mills Allen and William Allen.
As a young child, the family moved to Beardsfork, W. VA., where she was educated. Several of her older brothers left the homestead and traveled to MD to work at the Safeway, a supermarket chain. Mary soon followed and in August of 1965 it’s where Mary met Leonard. They married and had two sons, Michael and Jonathan. Leonard eventually left the Safeway and went to the Post Office.
Mary, whom began as an entry level employee and worked her way up to Cashier. After 23 years, Mary retired in 1989.
Mary loved her family! She also enjoyed the art of carpentry, often building sheds, decks and even cabinetry for her family. She was outgoing and was happy when her family was around her. Mary lived the last 15 years of her life with Alzheimer’s disease.
