On December 1, 2021, at approximately 6:30 p.m., police responded to the Target located at 45155 First Colony Boulevard in California, for the reported theft in progress.
Deputies arrived on the scene and made contact with the asset protection management who stated an unidentified white male was currently inside the business and had stolen from the business multiple times in the past.
The male suspect was observed filling a shopping cart full of different products, and Deputies waited outside of the business for the suspect to exit the store with the stolen merchandise.
A short time later, the male exited the business after passing all points of sale with a shopping cart full of stolen merchandise.
The suspect identified himself to police as Guy Butler, who advised his wife had paid for the items, but could not advise where she was. The suspect was read his rights and placed into custody, where he continued to deny stealing the items.
Target employees scanned all items in the suspects shopping cart, which included household goods such as towels, candles, laundry detergent, Febreeze spray, a men’s trimmer, Bissell pet stain eraser carpet cleaner, and a cordless Shark pro vacuum, which came to a total amount of $1,191.53
While in the asset protection office, Butler admitted to officers that his wife was not at the store with him.
Management then located all of the previous five theft incidents Butler committed since November 9, 2021.
The previous five theft attempts showed employees would stop or attempt to stop the suspect after he attempted to walk out of the store past all points of sale with shopping carts full of stolen merchandise, but would leave prior to being identified and flee the area.
