Charles County Police Arrest Felon and Recover Handgun; Released Less Than 24 Hours Later

On Thursday, September 8, 2022, at approximately 7:10 p.m., officers responded to the report of an individual armed with a handgun in the area of Caroline Park.

As officers arrived in the area the individual fled on foot.

A perimeter was established by responding LPPD and Charles County Sheriff’s Office units. The individual was relocated and with the assistance of a CCSO K9 team the firearm was recovered.

The suspect, identified as Wayne Andrew Dorsey, Jr., age 28, of Piscataway Court in La Plata, was arrested and transported to the Charles County Detention Center where he was released on his own recognizance the following day. Dorsey was charged with the below for the incident.

  • RESIST/INTERFERE WITH ARREST
  • ILLEGAL POSS AMMO

Dorsey has previously arrests in Charles County, Worcester County, and Ocean City between 2014 and 2017 for firearm possession, stolen firearm possession, assault first degree, assault second degree, theft, cds possession and cds distribution.

In 2015, Dorsey was sentenced to one year in jail for Possess Regulated Firearm Being Under 21. All jail time was suspended at sentencing.
