UPDATE: Motorcycle Accident in Tall Timbers Under Investigation, 62-Year-Old Piney Point Man Flown to Trauma Center

UPDATE: On September 15, 2022, at 3:47 p.m. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 18000 block of Piney Point Road and Tall Timbers Road in Tall Timbers, for the reported collision involving a motorcycle.

Preliminary investigation determined a 2000 GMC Sierra, operated by Andrea Leach, age 38 of Piney Point, attempted to turn left onto Old Tall Timbers Road, and collided with a southbound, 2003 Suzuki GSXR-1000, operated by Marshall Ping Jr., age 62 of Piney Point.

Ping was ejected from the motorcycle and transported by helicopter to an area trauma center for treatment.

At this time, failure to yield the right of way and speed appear to be contributing factors in the collision.

9/15/2022: On Thursday, September 15, 2022, at approximately 3:42 p.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to the area of Piney Point Road and Old Tall Timbers Road in Piney Point, for the reported motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle with one unconscious.

Crews arrived on the scene to find a pickup truck and single motorcyclist involved, with the motorcycle occupant laying unconscious in the roadway with agonal breathing.

Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 landed nearby and transported the victim to an area trauma center with serious injuries.

Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team responded and are investigating the collision.

Piney Point Road will be closed for an extended period of time.
