Martha Victoria “Vickie” Dell, 87, of California, Maryland passed away at her home on March 31, 2023.
Born August 2, 1935, in Hollywood MD, she was the youngest daughter of the late Bernard Xavier Ferguson, Sr. and Essie Marie Payne.
Other than a few tours of duty, Vickie was a life-long resident of St. Mary’s County and a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy.
Vickie met her husband, John Dell when he was stationed at Patuxent River, and they were married in Virginia in 1957 and celebrated 24 years together until John’s passing in 1981. In 1987, she met companion, Everett L. Dement, and they were together for 35 years before his passing in December of 2022.
Vickie worked as an office assistant/bookkeeper for National Mobile Homes and then Raley’s Home Furnishing Store. She then spent several years volunteering at St. Mary’s County Historical Society and Helping Hands where she developed long-lasting friendships.
Vickie enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her friends and family. She was best known in the family for her Christmas Cookies. Vicki loved traveling, especially with her niece. She was a quiet lady who enjoyed cooking, reading, puzzles, and playing cards.
She is survived by her sister in-law and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her three brothers: Bernard Xavier Ferguson, Jr., Robert Luke Ferguson, Sr., George Andrew Ferguson, and her sister, Mary Hemming.
